Bookshelf Bookmarklets
What’s a bookmarklet? Wikipedia says: “A bookmarklet is a small JavaScript program that can be stored as a URL within a bookmark in most popular web browsers, or within hyperlinks on a web page.”
We’ve created bookmarklets (also known as favelets) for your Oxford Dictionary. The bookmarklet lives in the bookmarks bar of your favorite browser. Highlight a word on any webpage and click the bookmarklet and that word will be referenced in your Oxford Dictionary. Or just click on the bookmarklet and type in your search term(s). It’s that easy.
How do you get started? Drag the appropriate links to your bookmarks toolbar.
Safari (Mac) & Firefox (Win/Mac): OxfordLookup
Internet Explorer (Win): Oxford Lookup Internet Explorer Users: Right-click and Add to Favorites. From there you can drag it to your Links toolbar
Oh, you don’t have the Oxford Dictionary or would like to use a different reference book?
The great thing is that these bookmarklets are also customizable, so you can use them to search any one of your reference materials in VitalSourceTM Bookshelf. Simply change the ISBN that is referenced in the Javascript with the appropriate ISBN below.

The Oxford Dictionary of English – 0-19-861347-4 The New Oxford American Dictionary – 0-19-511227-X (default ISBN) The Canadian Oxford Dictionary – 0-19-541731-3 Mosby’s Dental Dictionary – 0-8151-9888-4 Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary – 0-7216-0146-4 2005 Britannica Concise Encyclopedia – 1-59339-248-6
