University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine Becomes First to Offer Complete Digital Curriculum; Chooses Ingram Digital’s(SM) VitalSource® Platform
LA VERGNE, TN—The University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine’s class of 2012 includes the first medical students in the world to receive digital curriculum and course materials through Ingram Digital’s VitalSource application. Ingram Digital already provides the full four-year curriculum for the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Dentistry through the VitalSource platform.
Currently, one out of three dental students in North America use Ingram Digital’s VitalSource interactive e-book platform to access curriculum content. By infusing textbooks and other course materials with interactive functionality, Ingram Digital’s e-book platform enhances the learning experience. It also allows efficient access and storage of a robust library of content directly on the student’s PC or Mac.
“Providing medical students access to a digital reference library on the powerful VitalSource platform will greatly enhance their learning experience,” said William Chesser, Vice President and General Manager of Ingram Digital Education Solutions. “We are excited to expand upon our success with the School of Dentistry by bringing the curriculum for the School of Medicine to life in the innovative VitalBook® format.”
Ingram Digital is an Ingram content company focused on solutions for digital content management, hosting, distribution and promotion. This agreement marks Ingram Digital’s first dual implementation in a university setting.
Students at the University of Puerto Rico Medical School will receive a university-issued laptop pre-loaded with the 30 textbooks they will use during their first two years of classes – a time when all students take the same courses. Books are offered in Ingram Digital’s interactive Vitalbook format, which allows users to search for content as they would in a search engine, cut and paste sections, and highlight and share notes with other users. Students in their third and fourth years may purchase course materials for their specialized areas of study in Vitalbook format from the University’s online store.
University of Puerto Rico Medical students also may download their content onto an additional computer and receive updates or new editions of their course materials free of charge as long as they retain their student status. Once downloaded, students have access to their searchable e-textbooks as long as they need them and can even transfer their license if they upgrade their computer.
