Pep Carrera is Chief Operating Officer of VitalSource Technologies LLC., a leading educational platform technology company.

Mr. Carrera was most recently Chief Information Officer of Ingram Content Group, responsible for Ingram's information technology systems and comprehensive content management systems that serve publishers, libraries, booksellers and educators worldwide.

Earlier this year, Pep received a CIO Award from The Nashville Business Journal. The CIO Awards recognize the top technological executives in Middle Tennessee, and honor CIOs who use IT to proactively advance company initiatives, competitive advantage and optimize business processes.

Prior to joining Ingram, Pep served as the CTO at RAPP, a leading marketing services provider. In addition to his work at RAPP, Pep led large IT systems teams at SourceCorp, a business outsourcing provider serving Fortune 100 companies. Additionally, he spent several years managing information technology for companies in the construction industry.

Pep earned a Bachelor's degree in MIS from Florida International University, and an MBA from Texas A&M University, Commerce.

William Chesser leads worldwide Business Development at VitalSource, including market development, customer acquisition, and partner development for all non-North American higher education markets as well as corporate training and other adult learning segments. William also supervises all of VitalSource's account management and onboarding teams. As one of the company's founders, William has held a variety of senior positions in the company spanning sales and business development to product and operations and he has seen the company grow from a handful of people based in Raleigh, N.C., to almost 200 associates in multiple offices including Raleigh, Boston, San Mateo, Nashville and London. Prior to his arrival at VitalSource, William was a teacher-trainer at the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he helped to create and implement whole-school reform programs in schools across North America. He received his BA in English from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and an MA in English Literature from North Carolina Central University.

Rick Johnson is the Vice President of Product Development and Sales Engineering, and one of the founders of VitalSource. Rick manages the strategic direction of VitalSource's Bookshelf ® platform, guiding the architecture, and implementation of its clients and systems. Prior to his tenure at VitalSource, Rick spent more than 12 years with Apple Computer, Inc. where he was instrumental in the implementation of complex solutions for many higher education and corporate customers, and received numerous national and international awards. He is a frequent speaker on electronic textbooks, their integration into an institutional environment, and how the accessibility needs of individual students can best be accommodated in their delivery. He has served on multiple committees addressing the needs around delivering accessible content to students, was a member of the working groups responsible for version 2 and version 3 of the EPUB standard. Rick currently serves on the board of directors for IMSGlobal (opens in new tab) and the IDPF (opens in new tab), and is the co-inventor of three domestic and international patents dealing with electronic books and their distribution. He is a graduate of the communication and business departments of Biola University.

Mike Hale leads the sales teams for the publisher, institution, and reseller facing businesses of VitalSource. He has served in a number of other roles at the company including publisher business development and curriculum consulting. Prior to joining VitalSource in 2004, Mike spent 14 years as an educator in a variety of roles including co-founding and directing an urban charter school; directing a statewide college access program; research and teaching as faculty at North Carolina Central University and Appalachian State University; working with the National Paideia Center facilitating change in schools around the country. He is also the author The Teacher's Guide to Leading Student-Centered Discussions: Talking About Texts in the Classroom (Corwin Press, 2006) and other works. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has a B.A. in Philosophy from Auburn.

Al lssa leads the Engineering team at VitalSource, which includes research, development, testing and operations of the company's software systems including VitalSource's Bookshelf ® platform. Under Al's leadership, VitalSource has also developed an extensive set of Web APIs for LMS, publisher and institutional integration, delivering millions of transactions a day. Al is a specialist in Cloud and distributed computing models, SaaS platforms and Agile methodologies, and he has held leadership roles at a variety of companies, including VitalSource,, Bell Laboratories, Medfusion, SITA, Flashpoint Technologies and other consumer facing and B2B companies. Al is listed as an inventor on several US patents around distributed systems and digital media. He received his BS in Computer Science from Florida International University and an MS in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Chip Price is responsible for general management, business development and product strategy for VitalSource Professional Services, a full-service digital media group that provides application development and content production for both education and the corporate training markets. Prior to joining VitalSource, Chip was President and CEO of VPG Integrated Media (VPG), a leading developer of award-winning media production and development services for educational publishers. VitalSource acquired VPG in 2011, and through Chip’s leadership, has built a creative powerhouse that has won numerous awards and serves a client list of leading publishers, non-profits, universities and state and local school districts. Chip holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from Duke University.
